Prejudice and discrimination can have a really negative impact on children and young people

Prejudice and discrimination can have a really negative impact on children and young people, by not teaching children and young people from an early age about the differences on different cultures and beliefs in a positive respect. This could push them to feel bitterness and resentment towards other cultures.
Child and young people who feel they have been discriminated against could feel:
• Self-esteem issues
• Dejection
• Resentment
• Isolated
It is important for us to help identify the feelings that a child is feeling and discuss moments when we have felt lonely and how to overcome the negative feelings that may arise within them. By sharing our own feeling can help the pupil feel as though they are not alone and have someone to speak to.
