It should pose difficulty in normal functions (at work, with friend or family) to be considered as a disorder.
Symptoms may include inflated self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, more talkative than usual, flight of ideas, excessive involvement in pleasurable activities that have high potential etc. Screening tests are conducted to determine the severity of the disorder. The treatment is often a combination of medication (aripiprazole, olanzapine etc.) and counselling. Certain drugs are used to maintain a steady mood.
