communicating with a child between the ages of 3-7 years you will need to listen very carefully and speak slowly and clearly to them so they can understand you, always check to make sure the child has understood what you have said, as their vocabulary wont be as big as yours at this stage of development, its a good idea to ask the child to repeat it back to you or ask a question to check. When speaking and listening to a child you should lower yourself to their level so the child doesn’t feel intimidated by you over towering them, also use a friendly approach by smiling so the child feels comfortable and use eye contact so the child feel like you are interested and concentrating on what they are talking about. Don’t interrupt them and be patient as you may need to repeat and explain things more then once.
Children at this age have a very short attention span and can get board very easily, so its a good idea to try and make things fun and exciting for them so you can keep their full attention for longer periods. You will also have to remind children at this age to listen and to take turn in letting others speak.
